Further education as an engineer made Bengt Kjenes (37) truly open his eyes to the importance of energy efficiency in existing buildings. Several building owners have also realised this, and we now need even more project managers.

– The energy potential in many buildings is enormous, says Bengt Kjenes.
He is the latest hire at Energy Control and holds a trade certificate in ventilation and sheet metal work. For the past eight years he has worked as a fitter and project manager at one of Bergen's large ventilation and sheet metal companies. At Energy Control, he will work as a project manager — in other words, one of those who will be out in the buildings every day making a difference.
– I will be designing the buildings and helping to cut energy consumption, while at the same time improving the indoor climate. These are measures that give existing buildings a new and better life, says Kjenes, adding:
– I am looking forward to being able to make a difference for these buildings, says Kjenes.
It was the engineering course at the Bergen College of Technology that opened his eyes to the importance of working with energy efficiency in buildings.
– I completed the further education as an engineer in Climate, Energy and Environment at the Bergen College of Technology alongside my job. It was inspiring, but at the same time it became clear to me how insufficient the competence in this area really is. Many buildings are managed today almost blindly — you really have no idea how things stand, says Kjenes.
Founder and CEO of Energy Control, Tommy Hagenes, is very pleased that Bengt accepted the invitation to join the company.
– He represents a very important competence for us. The building technical experience, and not least the insight he gained during his engineering studies, is crucial for us. He will be an important resource both in the design and execution of our many new projects, says Hagenes, adding:
– With Bengt on the team, we have significantly increased our capacity. A further increase in the volume of assignments means, however, that we now need even more skilled professionals. We are therefore looking for even more project managers, concludes Tommy.
