None of Us Can Solve the Energy Challenges Alone

‍Shared both success stories and "f*** ups"
That is why there was no hesitation when Energy Control took the initiative to organise Proptech Pulse at Sundvolden Hotel. At the event — by invitation only — insight and learning were given top priority.

– That was the whole point of Proptech Pulse. The gathering was designed to be genuinely useful, so that participants could take away insights to use in their own buildings, says Tommy Hagenes at Energy Control. Around 70 people said yes to attending, and at the gathering they harvested experiences from both technology suppliers, consultants and property operators. Both success stories and "f*** ups" were shared.

– A great many of the participants have said they would very much like to come back next year, says Hagenes.

‍– We have been stripped bare
It was of course no coincidence that Proptech Pulse was held at Sundvolden Hotel. In recent years the hotel has been an extremely enthusiastic user of both new technology and Energy Control’s expertise.

– Everything we do on energy and indoor climate at the hotel, we now do in consultation with Energy Control, says Laeskogen. The family has owned the hotel since the 1950s, so you might think they knew the hotel well — but the truth is that there was a great deal that Tord and his colleagues actually did not know.

– The truth is that we have been stripped bare. By collecting data, we have not only gained insight — we have also found out why we had poor indoor climate and high energy use, says Laeskogen. He explains that for years they had been frustrated by exactly this, and that traditional consultants and professionals had not been able to identify the problem.

– That is why we are very glad to now have this insight. It enables us to make well-founded decisions on behalf of the hotel, says Laeskogen.

‍Faster, better and cheaper
It is precisely this insight that he wants others to have too, which is why he opened the doors of his hotel.

– If we are to take the industry’s energy challenges seriously, we all have to do what we can. My contribution is to share my experiences by adopting new technology and the solutions that Energy Control advocates. That is why I tell my story, says Laeskogen. Sundvolden Hotel is one of Norway’s oldest hotels and one of the country’s best for courses and conferences. The hotel has a complex building stock with many construction phases and systems, which made it impossible to gain insight and ensure that what was being delivered matched what had been ordered and paid for.

– After several years of considerable frustration, Energy Control came in with a completely new approach. Using new technology, they solved what had long been one of our major challenges. Everyone must of course make their own assessments, but my experience is that wireless technology is ten times better, ten times cheaper and ten times faster, says Laeskogen.
