– It's not going to be easy to be an energy thief going forward. Together with Noova, we are quite simply the country's best energy hunters, says Tommy Hagenes at Energy Control.
He believes that "The Hunt for Energy Thieves" is a fantastic initiative and an important industry effort.
– The campaign shines a much-needed spotlight on the fact that a great many buildings use unnecessarily large amounts of energy. Lighting, ventilation and other energy thieves tick along without anyone being aware of it. It is therefore fantastic that the Green Building Alliance puts the spotlight on exactly this every year. I encourage all building operators, landlords and tenants to join the campaign, says Hagenes.
Making it fun to catch energy thieves
In the campaign, the Green Building Alliance invites municipalities, private building managers, schools, kindergartens and housing cooperatives to participate in the national campaign. The figures from last year show good results, confirming that the campaign has a lot going for it. 1.7 million square metres were reviewed and 6.75 million kWh of unnecessary energy use was uncovered. This is enough to supply over 400 households with electricity for a year.
– We collaborate with the Green Building Alliance and have adapted our app, EC Go, so that it is not just easy but fun to hunt energy thieves. While in Pokémon Go you hunt Pokémons, in EC Go you hunt energy thieves, says Hagenes.
He explains that the app is free for everyone who wants to take part in the Catch the Energy Thief campaign.
– Catching energy thieves is so important, not just for your own wallet but in a broader perspective it's about the environment and sustainability. That is why we have created a freemium version that is free for everyone who wants to help catch energy thieves, says Tommy.
We catch thieves all year round
The challenge is of course that energy thieves don't sleep. They don't wait for darkness to fall either.
– Catching energy thieves like the ones the Green Building Alliance is now encouraging people to find is one of the most cost-effective measures landlords and tenants can take in their buildings and premises. With our energy management app you catch such thieves around the clock, all year round, says Hagenes.
By placing wireless sensors at strategic locations in the building, unnecessary energy use is quickly detected.
– Ventilation that ticks away, lights that are left on and other energy thieves are quickly exposed. This means you don't need to search with a torch after dark. Energy thieves are easily revealed in the app, says Hagenes.
Catch energy thieves while you eat pizza or work out
This means you can now catch energy thieves while doing completely other things.
– You can catch energy thieves while watching Norway thrash Estonia and Italy, or while eating pizza with your mates, or when you're at the gym, says Hagenes.
You can catch energy thieves whenever and wherever you are.
– We find that when we actively manage buildings, we often achieve an energy reduction of between 30 and 50 percent, sometimes more. In most buildings we achieve major savings with very simple measures, says Hagenes.
If you want to test the potential, you can download the EC Go app and get started. All you need is the app.
– In the app you can both register energy thieves, but you can actually also get a good indication of your building's energy potential. By entering some simple information about the building – such as its size, type of building and an estimated energy consumption – we automatically carry out an analysis of the building. Based on this, you will quickly get an indication of the energy potential of your building or premises, says Hagenes.
Download the app in the App Store or wherever you normally download your apps. Want to know how? Read more here: https://energycontrol.notion.site/Fang-energityven-i-EC-Go
