Technology is both the brain and the heart of Energy Control. – Without great developers we would have flopped from day one, says founder and CEO Tommy Hagenes.

– It is our developers who ensure that our solutions, and above all our customers' buildings, run seamlessly and optimally, says Hagenes.
An international flavour
Good developers are in other words crucial to the day-to-day running of Energy Control's energy-optimising solutions, but also for both development and growth. At the office in Bergen, Robin Willox has been steering development for about a year, but now he has been joined by Abraham Bah (Abe to his friends). Together with Petter Marthinussen and the company's four contracted consultants around the world, they make up Energy Control's development department.
– The development department has quite an international flavour, smiles Robin.
The latest addition is Abe. He comes from the development department at TV 2, but also has a background at Airthings, a technology company Energy Control works closely with.
– I was on the cloud team and was responsible for infrastructure and backend, says Abe, who has a master's degree in computer technology with a specialisation in AI.
– The experience from Airthings is very useful at Energy Control, says Abe.
Recruiting from Airthings
Robin also comes from Airthings, where he was among other things product manager and responsible for the integration solutions Airthings offers its customers.
– These are integration solutions that enable Airthings sensors to work and communicate with other systems. These are among the services that Energy Control now uses to integrate sensors into its solution, says Robin, adding:
– Airthings is one of the country's foremost technology companies. Working there was an extremely good learning experience. The advantage of Energy Control is that we are a much smaller company. As a developer, that means you are much more involved and closer to both product and customers. You have much greater influence, which makes it an inspiring place to work, says Robin.
In fact, as many as four of Energy Control's employees have worked at Airthings. In addition to the two developers, both Petter Marthinussen and Tommy Hagenes also have a background at the technology company.
– I learned a great deal from my time at Airthings, says Hagenes.
Technology makes us different
Energy Control operates at the intersection of traditional building operations and new technology. In brief, the company implements modern, wireless technology in existing buildings, giving both buildings and users a new and better life. Not only is energy use reduced – the indoor climate also improves. To achieve this requires both in-depth building technology expertise and technological understanding and insight.
– The use of technology is what makes us different and sets us apart. This is where our strength lies and that is why the continuous further development of our solutions is extremely important. That is why we have now hired a new developer. We are very pleased to have a resource like Abe on our team, says Tommy Hagenes.
