Say hello to the world's first AI Tjommi

‍It started with the robot dog, Lassie. Then the small start-up in Bergen launched its own app for energy management. Now Energy Control is facing its most important launch ever.

– We are now launching EC Tjommi, the building's best friend. EC Tjommi is an AI-driven energy adviser for building management that, based on the building's history, real-time data and experience, knows your building inside and out. He doesn't just tell you how things stand – he also tells you what measures should be implemented, says founder and CEO of Energy Control, Tommy Hagenes.

Head of FDVU & Proptech at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Martin Sæther, has already had the chance to get well acquainted with the new companion. They have 200 buildings that use EC Tjommi daily.
– We have many buildings to look after and busy days. Where before we had to figure everything out ourselves, we now just ask "the tjommi" how the building is doing and immediately get answers about, for example, air quality or the condition of the technical systems, says Sæther.

Energy Control has specialised in energy management and optimisation of existing buildings. A long list of the country's leading property players are on the client list, and very many report both reduced energy use and better indoor climate.
– This is still our most important task, and together with our customers we have achieved significant energy reductions. The most important thing, however, is that we have given many existing buildings a better and extended life, says Hagenes.

They have achieved this by adopting new technology and tailoring it for buildings and property portfolios. Last autumn they launched EC Go, an app for easier building management. Now they have not only further developed the app – they are launching EC Tjommi, an AI-driven companion for you and your building.
– We have a pretty good overview of what is available in new property technology and are not aware of anything similar. We are therefore very proud of our new Tjommi, says Hagenes.

He explains that they have fed EC Tjommi with information from over 11,000 documents and all the experience from the buildings they have worked with.
– Based on this knowledge and experience, EC Tjommi works as an expert on the management of your specific building, says Hagenes.

Hagenes acknowledges that EC Tjommi will probably take over some of the company's work tasks.
– We are disrupting ourselves a little by doing this, but my view is that if we are doing the same thing in three years as we are doing today, we will have failed. If we are to manage buildings better, we need to be developing. We therefore cannot continue doing things the way we always have, says Hagenes.

He is convinced that artificial intelligence will take over a great many of the work tasks we today take for granted. He therefore also believes that EC Tjommi is the company's most important innovation ever.
– The building and property industry is still lagging far behind, but we see significant potential for artificial intelligence here too. The reality is that the more information and experience we feed EC Tjommi with, the smarter it becomes. It can already give us answers to challenges that traditional consultants would spend hours, perhaps days, figuring out. EC Tjommi will become building owners' best and most important friend, says Hagenes.
